23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Isaiah 35:4-7, Ps 146, James 2:1-5, Mark 7:31-37

Today we have the privilege of witnessing a miracle, one which takes place in the Gospel. A miracle can be seen as an outward display that points to a deeper meaning. Today’s miracle is characterized by the word “Ephphatha” which means “Be opened”.

Today’s homily is preached by Fr. Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R. the pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Saskatoon, SK, Canada.

In the Gospel miracle a man’s deaf ears were opened to hearing and his mute tounge was freed to speak.

Where in your life do you need to be opened?

What do your eyes need to see?

What do your ears need to hear?

What does your heart need to feel?

I want to thank Redemptorist Preacher for reaching out to others in this way. This scripture reading and the homily by Fr. Hansen was uplifting and reassuring. I listened to this after attending Mass in my own Parish. It is a good thing to hear another person’s prespective of what God is saying to us. I applaud the Redemptorist for coming up with this format. It is a wonderful way to reach the young and the old and more importanly, it is a great evangelization method. Via the internet you are able to catechise and touch lives througout the world, which I am sure is the meaning of the scipture today and what God has called each of us to do. Be opened to the spirit and God. Open your eyes and see!
